Our Pastor:
Stephen Elmer has served as our Pastor since 2001. Up until 2008, he also worked full-time at several banks and investment firms as a financial advisor.
If you ask him where he is from, his answer will usually be: "All Over!" Although Steve was born a Hoosier, his boyhood home was in the suburbs of Denver, Colorado, which, of course, makes him a life-long Broncos fan! It was in Colorado where the Lord graciously drew and saved Steve when he was just a young boy. He vividly remembers the time when his mother shared the gospel with him while sitting on her lap, and he "believed on the Lord Jesus Christ" and was saved! A few years later he was baptized, when he understood that baptism does not save, but is an outward symbol of God’s saving work in his life.
Steve felt the call to the ministry not long after he was baptized. Even at the tender age of 12, God was working in his heart through messages from his Sunday School teacher, Pastor, and visiting missionaries. On a summer day, during a special time of prayer, God impressed upon him the call to serve Him in full-time ministry. As a teenager, Steve took on more active roles in Church and Youth Group, participated on mission trips, and looked for opportunities to serve God.
His family left the West and moved to upstate New York, where Steve grew in his desire to serve the Lord as a minister of the Gospel! This desire was further developed during college, as he learned more about God and His Word, as well as served in different ministries. It was also at college, where he met his best friend and future wife, Angie.
Upon graduation from Bob Jones University, he and Angie married and served together for several years at Hancock Reformed Baptist Church, also in Greenfield. It was there that the Lord prepared them for their future ministry. After visiting several churches in several different states, the Lord brought them right back home to Greenfield, Indiana, to serve at Grace Baptist Church. For many years, Steve also worked in the banking and investment industries, which provided other opportunities to help and serve others.
Steve loves to study God's Word and to share what he learns with his church family! One of his favorite verses is Ecclesiastes 3:14: "I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him!" His greatest desire is that God will perform His work in and through Grace Baptist Church!
